The flagship location of Queen of Cream closed last week after four years in the Old Fourth Ward, What Now Atlanta first reported. The ice cream shop, owned by pastry chef Cora Cotrim, opened on North Highland Avenue in August 2015.

Cotrim calls the closure “bittersweet.” The ice cream shop has become a neighborhood staple, but with winter approaching and the lease ending in March, Cotrim says it was “time to close.”

“We will miss all of regulars and we are hoping they come see us at our Poncey-Highland location, and our locations at the Simon Malls [Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza],” Cotrim tells Eater Atlanta. “We also plan on having a small freezer for pints and treats at the neighborhood grocery, Every Day Market [on North Highland.]”

Cotrim collaborated with Revelator coffee to open Coffee and Ice Cream, across from Williams-Sonoma at Lenox Square Mall earlier this spring. The cafe serves coffee drinks and features 12 ice cream flavors from Queen of Cream, along with sundaes, ice cream sandwiches, and milkshakes. Queen of Cream ice cream is also featured on the menu at Revelator-backed Sweet Tooth Cafe, located on the second level of Buckhead luxury mall Phipps Plaza.

A second Queen of Cream opened in September at Plaza on Ponce between Insomnia Cookies and the Majestic diner on Cleburne Terrace. Cotrim tells Eater there are no additional locations in the works. She plans to “concentrate” on growing Queen of Cream’s wholesale business in 2020 and to continue selling the shop’s ice cream at local markets like Everyday.

The ice cream shop joins chef Joey Ward’s cocktail lounge and restaurant Southern Belle and tasting menu restaurant Georgia Boy at Plaza on Ponce. LA import Jinya Ramen Bar should open early next year at the Plaza Theatre complex.

Queen of Cream produces all of its ice creams from scratch using dairy sourced from a family-run farm in Waynesboro, Georgia to create flavors like lavender honeycomb and sprinkle cookie as well as vegan options such as black pearl, made from coconut milk and coconut ash.
