After years of running mobile Cuban bakery and sandwich shop Buena Gente from a teardrop camper or ventanita (“little window”,) Manny Rodriguez and Stacie Antich plan to open their first permanent location in Decatur. Buena Gente opens next spring in the former Nectar space on Clairmont Road — the same complex as the Po’Boy Shop, Community Q BBQ, and Ms. Icey’s Kitchen and Bar.
Antich tells Eater Atlanta the shop will stay “true” to its ventanita roots and be mainly takeout with some limited seating inside. The menu includes the food truck’s most popular items like a variety of pastelitos, croquetas, and empanadas as well as an expanded menu of Cuban sandwiches. Buena Gente also serves Cuban-style coffee drinks and sodas.
“We are very excited about opening our first brick and mortar,” Antich says. “It is located in the Nectar space...right next to the Po’Boy Shop and two doors down from Community Q. We are in great company!”
As for the mobile operation, Antich and Rodriguez continue to travel around Atlanta to breweries and farmers markets, announcing Buena Gente’s location each day on Instagram and on their website.
