Snackboxe Bistro closes temporarily to add a full bar

Doraville Laotian restaurant Snackboxe Bistro, owned by Eater Atlanta chef of the year winner Thip Athakhanh and Vanh Sengaphone, is closed through Tuesday, February 13 for renovations. They’re adding a full bar. The counter-serve restaurant in the Super H Mart complex mixes traditional Laotian dishes, like larb (meat salad), khao poon (spicy rice noodle soup), and mok pha (steamed fish,) with street food such as fried garlic-pepper wings, lemongrass spare ribs, and tapioca pearl dumplings. Celebrity chef Andrew Zimmern is in Atlanta promoting his new book

Bizarre Foods host and celebrity chef Andrew Zimmern is in Atlanta today promoting his latest venture — a children’s book called “AZ and the Lost City of Ophir”. The book centers around 12-year-old AZ and his time-traveling adventure back to ancient Egypt. Zimmern will sign books this evening at the Peach shopping center Barnes and Noble at 2900 Peachtree Road starting at 7 p.m. The chef spent a portion of his morning with Top Chef Kevin Gillespie at Gunshow filming a segment for television station Fox 5 Atlanta. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each book go to benefit No Kid Hungry. [Official]

Atlanta’s Beautiful Briny Sea creates a salt for Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim

Salt company Beautiful Briny Sea and Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim collaborated on a custom sea salt. Only 300 canisters are available for purchase at $5 each during the network’s live-streaming shopping show As Seen on Adult Swim, Wednesday, February 13 at 8 p.m. To get a sneak peek of the salt, people can tune into Assembly Line Yeah! on AdultSwim.com, Monday, February 11 at 8:00 p.m. The live episode features Beautiful Briny’s founder Suzi Sheffield recreating the salt, comprising of Pacific sea salt, black Hawaiian sea salt, black pepper, and garlic, and the show’s hosts, Anca Vlasan and Chiyoung Lee, making Valentine’s Day chocolates using the company’s salts. Chef EJ Hodgkinson leaves Ford Fry’s restaurant group and his post at King + Duke

After years working in the kitchens of Ford Fry restaurants like JCT. Kitchen & Bar and King + Duke, chef EJ Hodgkinson is moving on to “new adventures.” Chef Chris Edwards, formerly of Linton Hopkins’ Restaurant Eugene and Holeman and Finch Public House, replaces Hodgkinson at King + Duke. In addition to his five years with Hopkins, Edwards brings over 20 years of kitchen experience to Fry’s open hearth-based restaurant in Buckhead. No word as to where Hodgkinson will land next.
