District M Sushi opens at the Modera Sandy Springs complex on Roswell Road at the end of February. The 140-seat restaurant will offer à la carte sushi, traditional omakase experiences, and a sashimi moriawase, along with charcoal grilled meats and vegetables on its menu. Chef Jackie Chang, formerly of Umi in Buckhead and O-Ku in Westside, leads the kitchen and District M’s sushi bar.

The 20-seat sushi bar, which District M claims to be the largest in Atlanta, sees Chang creating edomae-style omakases featuring fresh fish from Japan. This style involves both cooked and cured fish as well as rice prepared quickly — usually within 45 seconds.

District M includes three omakase options on the menu: the market priced, all-you-can-eat Benzaiten, the five-course Bishamonten with carpaccio, ten pieces of sashimi or six pieces of nigiri, soup, black cod, and dessert for $60 per person, and a sushi-bar-only nigiri omakase comprising of an appetizer, sushi roll, soup, 14 pieces of nigiri, and dessert for $90 per person. There is also a moriwase option in which Chang chooses up to five types of sashimi or 12 pieces of assorted nigiri.

The à la carte sushi menu features white fish, mackerel, jackfish, eel, and roe. According to the press release, District M says it’s only serving bluefin tuna and cuts of the fattiest and “best” portion of the tuna belly or otoro on the menu.

In addition to sushi, District M will also offer meats from its charcoal grill and other cooked entrees like a tableside-cooked wagyu beef or moromi miso pork belly with kimchee Brussel sprouts.

District M includes a 10-seat bar serving cocktails, local and imported beers like Hitachino on draft, a selection of sakes, and Asian whiskeys such as Kavalan from Taiwan and Iwai and Hibiki from Japan. An outdoor patio with a window bar seats 30 additonal people. There’s an upstairs lounge area that also doubles as a 30-seat private dining room.
