One of Atlanta’s most celebrated pizza pies returns for a one-night-only appearance in the Old Fourth Ward. O4W Pizza’s “Grandma” pie hits the menu at Nina & Rafi at SPX Alley on the Beltline, Monday, March 11, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., or until it’s sold out. The pizza is available for dine-in only.
O4W Pizza owner Anthony Spina co-owns Nina & Rafi with Atlanta restaurateur Billy Streck (Hampton + Hudson, Cypress Street Pint & Plate). Spina first opened O4W Pizza as a stall inside Irwin Street Market in 2015. His square, Jersey-style margherita topped with spicy marinara, garlic, mozzarella, extra-virgin olive oil, pecorino romano cheese, and fresh oregano and basil became a citywide sensation, landing Spina and his pizzas in food magazines like Bon Apetit. Spina pulled up stakes at Irwin Street Market in 2016 to open his permanent restaurant in Duluth, stunning in-town “Grandma” fans with the departure.
Most assumed when Spina and Streck announced the opening of Nina & Rafi, “Grandma” would return to the old neighborhood. The partners, however, decided not to put the pizza on the menu, but left the possibility open for “Grandma” to visit on occasion.
Meanwhile, Spina has created another crave-worthy pizza in O4W — the Detroit, a rectangular pan pizza with a focaccia-like crust. The super margherita listed on the menu at Nina & Rafi is similar to the original “Grandma” pie.
During Grandma’s in-town visit, Nina & Rafi plans to offer amari specials throughout the evening. This includes several vintage amaro selections and a cocktail called the Corleone Float, consisting of Foro amaro, butter pecan gelato, Coca-Cola, and bourbon-spiced pecans, garnished with Luxardo cherries.
