Buckhead’s Katana Sushi Closes Over the Weekend

The sushi and teppanyaki restaurant opened more than four years ago along Lenox Road

Katana Teppanyaki & Sushi

Katana Teppanyaki & Sushi closed on Saturday, June 29, after more than four years on Lenox Road across from Lenox Square Mall in Buckhead.

A statement left on the restaurant’s website reads:

Katana Teppanyaki & Sushi closed its doors after dinner service on Saturday, June 29 following more than four and a half years in business. The ownership team including Mali Hu will turn their focus solely to its current concept Monkey 68 in Roswell and the forthcoming Monkey 68 Kitchen & Bar, coming to Alpharetta later this summer. Katana thanks everyone for their loyal patronage over the last few years, and is looking forward to serving everyone at its Monkey 68 concepts.

The restaurant was listed for lease by the Shumacher Group back in April with a monthly rent rate set at $20,800. Apparently, there were no takers and the landlord reduced the rent to between $15,000 and $17,000 per month. This is prime real estate in Buckhead. Katana is situated in the area’s financial district near several luxury hotels and two high end malls, Phipps Plaza and Lenox Square.

A representative for the restaurant would not comment further on the closure.

In June, Hu announced he would open a second Monkey 68 on Main Street in the northern suburban city of Alpharetta. The neighboring Roswell restaurant opened last summer along Green Street just off of Canton Street in the city’s historic downtown district.
