Red’s Beer Garden opens this fall along Boulevard in the Benteen Park neighborhood, just south of Grant Park, What Now Atlanta reports. Red’s, owned by Kristen Sumpter and Ed Sumpter, will offer beer, wine, and cider on draft and from self-serve refrigerators as well as a variety of hot dogs from Atlanta-based Pigman Goods.
The beer garden includes seating inside and out back on a deck overlooking a wooded area. Customers place their drink and food orders inside and can choose from six premade beef or vegan hot dogs, with the option to create their own hot dogs from a selection of toppings. Snacks such as chips, popcorn, trail mix, and chocolates are also available.
“Much like visiting a brewery, customers can start a tab or pay as they go,” Kristen Sumpter tells Eater Atlanta.

The couple received a Beltline Facade pARTnership grant, which allows them to pair up with a local artist to make improvements to the exterior of the building. Beltline facade grants are given to businesses like Red’s within the Beltline Tax Allocation District (TAD) in hopes of revitalizing commercial areas and to attract new businesses along and adjacent to the 22-mile trail looping the city of Atlanta.
The Sumpters, who live in Kirkwood, say they discovered the Boulevard property with the help of a realtor.

“After talking with several residents [and discovering few viable dining options nearby], it didn’t take long for us to realize that this was the place we wanted to be,” Kristen Sumpter explains. “The Benteen Park neighborhood has been very supportive of this restaurant and are ready for a place they can call their own.”
The Sumpters are no strangers to the restaurant and brewery industries. In addition to her full time job with the University of Georgia, Kristen Sumpter works in the taproom at Eventide Brewing in Grant Park. Ed Sumpter has worked in management in the Atlanta restaurant industry for the last four years.
