Line up by 8 a.m. for a chance to win free chicken for a year at the opening of Joella’s Hot Chicken

Louisville-based Joella’s Hot Chicken opens Friday, September 6, at 2955 Cobb Parkway in the Cumberland area. It’s the first of four planned locations in metro Atlanta. In honor of the grand opening, Joella’s will offer the chance to receive free hot chicken for a year to the first 100 people in line on September 6. Those 100 people in line by 8 a.m. will be the recipients of 52 coupons, which amounts to a year’s supply of hot chicken. Joella’s is even asking people to line up 24 hours in advance of the opening, as the grand opening kicks off that Friday at 4:30 a.m. with live music, coffee from Smyrna’s Rev Coffee, and free chicken and waffles. Joella’s also plans to open in Kennesaw, Woodstock, and Newnan. [Official]

Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks opens in downtown Atlanta today

Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks opens today at 57 Forsyth Street in downtown Atlanta, the AJC first reported. The restaurant, owned by Derrick Hayes, first opened out of a Shell gas station on Winters Chapel Road five years ago. Big Dave’s, which announced its opening on Forsyth Street via social media, serves beef, chicken, fried chicken, and salmon cheesesteaks, cheesesteak egg rolls, chicken wings, fries, and onion rings. A second location opens in Doraville next month at the Peachtree Pavilion development on Peachtree Boulevard. [AJC]

Bye bye barbecue on Chattahoochee Avenue

Pappy Red’s barbecue is closed on Chattahoochee Avenue in Underwood Hills, Tomorrow’s News Today reports. Crews were seen Wednesday removing the small plane which sat atop the old school Southern barbecue joint. [ToNT]

Cascade Road Haitian restaurant the Spice House will open on 14th Street

Cascade Road Haitian restaurant the Spice House takes over the long-vacant Bobby and June’s Kountry Kitchen space on 14th Street in Home Park this fall, What Now Atlanta reports. The owners also plan to open a location in Lithonia on Panola Road. The restaurant serves dishes like shrimp and grits, jerk chicken, crawfish mac and cheese, whole fish plates, and turkey wings with black rice. [WNA]

Atlanta-based fast-casual chain Gusto opens in Chamblee next month with the restaurant’s first drive-thru

A Chamblee location of bowl and wrap fast-casual restaurant gusto! from former NFL quarterback Nate Hybl opens in late September on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard near the Whole Foods. The restaurant also becomes the first location to include a drive-thru window. gusto! has locations on Peachtree Road in Buckhead, on Ponce De Leon Avenue, in Decatur, and on 17th Street at Northside Drive. Fine dining Vietnamese restaurant Le Colonial in Buckhead now serves lunch

Le Colonial, now open at Shops Buckhead luxury retail complex on the corner of Bolling Way and Buckhead Avenue, begins serving lunch on Tuesday, September 3, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Expect to find dishes on the lunch menu like caramelized shaking beef and beef noodle soup, in addition to a two-course prix fix menu. The “social lunch” menu is $25 per person and includes dishes such as a crispy shrimp and pork roll and spicy chicken stir-fry. Le Colonial first opened in New York City over 25 years ago and now has locations in San Francisco, Chicago, and Houston. The restaurant has a strict dress code. [Official]
