Chef Marc Taft’s Southern restaurant Chicken and the Egg is apparently closed on Whitlock Avenue in Marietta, according to Tomorrow’s News Today. The restaurant, located in the Burnt Hickory Village shopping complex, opened in 2011.
No definitive reason was given for the closure.
Taft thanks his staff and customers in a statement, calling the restaurant a “dream recognized” and alluding to a possible reopening of Chicken and the Egg some time in the future.
The chef also closed Feed Fried Chicken And Such in January at Battery Atlanta, a little over a year after opening the restaurant at the Cobb County complex. At the time, he blamed a “saturated market” and lack of “organic traffic” during non-game days at Braves SunTrust Park for the closure. However, Taft’s MTF Restaurant Group filed chapter 7 bankruptcy earlier this year, which lead to the closure of his two-year-old seafood restaurant Brine at Alpharetta’s Avalon this spring.
In May, Taft announced he would open Feed Fried Chicken and Best Burger at the Halcyon development in southern Forsyth County. It seems those plans have now been scrapped.
Eater Atlanta reached out for further details on the closure and confirmation on the status of Feed and Best Burger at Halcyon.
