Canton-Based Reformation Brewery Continues Its Southward Expansion Into Smyrna

The opening of the brewery is a game-changer for the Cobb County city

Canton, Georgia-based Reformation Brewery continues its southward expansion with the opening of a third location last Friday in Smyrna at the new Eddy at Riverview Landing complex on Riverview Road. The brewery’s second location opened in downtown Woodstock in September 2018.

Reformation becomes Smyrna’s first brewery, following zoning law changes in 2018 allowing for breweries, brewpubs, and distilleries to open in the Cobb County city. In addition to the new zoning laws relating to alcohol-based businesses in Smyrna, the city also expanded its open container district policy to Riverview Landing.

The new open container district provides Reformation the opportunity to extend some of its sustainability practices to the Smyrna taproom, including serving beer in reusable silicone pint glasses. Patrons who invest in and reuse the plastic cup receive a discount on draft beers.

“Our brewhouse is highly efficient, using less wastewater than traditional systems. Adding a reusable cup that’s also compliant with the walkability of our neighborhoods was an easy next step,” CEO Spencer Nix says in the press release.

The 2,500-square-foot facility offers 16 beers on tap, along with retail purchases of six-packs and growlers. Reformation plans to use its Smyrna location to experiment with ciders, barrel-aged beers, sours, and “mixed fermentations.”

A location of Grand Champion BBQ could open by the end of March next to the brewery, accessed via an adjacent door. The complex already includes an outpost of Chattahoochee Coffee Company. Reformation Brewery-Smyrna offers designated public access to the dock and kayak launch on the Chattahoochee River and to the area’s green space, outdoor amphitheater, and trails.

Current hours: Wednesday - Thursday, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday, 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Saturday, 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Sunday, 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. The brewery eventually plans to extend its hours to include Tuesdays and the early afternoon on weekdays.
