To celebrate a widely success first year in business, Westview vegan burger joint Slutty Vegan is giving away free food starting at noon on Monday, January 13, the AJC reports. Those interested must text 678-846-3255 in order to partake in the meal deal. The reply to the text counts as a ticket for one free menu item while supplies last.
“Over the past year, we have impacted Atlanta in a huge way with our fast-casual junk food that is completely plant-based,” owner Pinky Cole says in a press release. “Every day, people are standing in line for hours to experience the juicy goodness of plant-based burgers, and this is our way of showing our gratitude.”
On its first day in business last January, the food truck turned permanent restaurant served over 1,200 people, some of whom waited in line for hours.
The Clark Atlanta University alum and former television producer began serving her line-inducing vegan burgers in August 2018 as a delivery service. People contacted Cole via Instagram to place their orders. She quickly amassed a cult following, leading to the opening of a mobile kitchen and late night pop-ups around Atlanta University Center, which includes Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse, and Spelman colleges.
Cole says she chose the name Slutty Vegan for her meatless burger endeavor because “sex sells, and ...healthier eating can sell as well.”
A second Slutty Vegan location is in the works for the Clayton County city of Jonesboro, and a third restaurant opens on Edgewood Avenue in the Old Fourth Ward later this year.
Monday’s first anniversary celebration at the Ralph David Abernathy-based restaurant includes actress Keshia Knight Pulliam, comedian and social media personality Pretty Vee, and embattled former Extra host A.J. Calloway.
