Celebrity chef Jonathan Waxman’s Italian restaurant Brezza Cucina is set to replace Indigo Road Hospitality-backed Italian restaurant Donetto at the Stockyards complex on Brady Avenue, according to What Now Atlanta. An opening ETA has yet to be disclosed.
Brezza Cucina closed in June after five years at Ponce City Market. Executive chef Andrew Cacioppo told Eater at the time of the closure that the owners were in the midst of finalizing plans to reopen elsewhere in Atlanta. The restaurant briefly reopened for dine-in service at the end of May, but closed again within the week. A post to Instagram indicated Brezza Cucina had “opened back up a bit too soon,” but no reason was given for its permanent closure at the food hall.
Brezza Cucina opened inside the sprawling central food hall at Ponce City Market in 2015 with former The Optimist chef Adam Evans at the helm. Cacioppo took over as executive chef after Evans departed in 2016. Evans has since gone on to open Automatic Seafood and Oysters in Birmingham, Alabama.
As for the closure of Donetto, Indigo Road Hospitality managing partner Steve Palmer told the AJC the group couldn’t make the restaurant work “with everything that has happened,” and wished Waxman well. Donetto opened at the Stockyards three years ago, serving a Tuscan-inspired Italian menu. Indigo Road also operates O-Ku, Tiny Lou’s, and Sukoshi in Atlanta, and Colletta and Oak Steakhouse in Alpharetta.
Earlier this month, chef Nick Leahy closed neighboring French restaurant Aix and wine bar Tin Tin at the Stockyards and reopened the space as a casual neighborhood spot called Nick’s Westside. The decision to close Aix and Tin Tin was due to the pandemic and the need to pivot away from special occasion dining to provide people with a more casual place to grab takeout or eat during the week.
