Brewery and taproom Inner Voice Brewing opens next spring in the former Big Tex restaurant space on West Ponce in Decatur, according to Decaturish. Owned by Rhett Caseman and Josh Johnson, Inner Voice will feature eight to 12 beers on tap and food from local pop-ups, along with to-go beer sales.
Big Tex closed six years ago in downtown Decatur. The restaurant was owned by Justin and Jonathan Fox of Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q and served Texas-inspired fare.
The space is currently being renovated to include more seating inside with better ventilation and to expand outdoor seating on the patio. Brewing equipment for Inner Voice is expected to arrive for installation by the end of December.
Caseman and Johnson, who met at Monday Night Brewing and have worked together at Variant Brewing in Roswell, plan to brew IPAs and stouts, along with other experiential beers at Inner Voice Brewing. A rotating array of pop-ups will serve food to complement the brewery’s beer offerings.
In other Decatur dining and drinking news, the city commission approved a temporary ordinance allowing restaurants to sell alcohol for off-premise consumption on Fridays, from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m., and Saturdays, from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m., in designated areas throughout the city. The temporary open container policy begins Friday, October 30, and runs through Sunday, January 3, 2021 at 1 a.m. for Decatur’s downtown and square, Old Depot, West Ponce, East College, and Oakhurst business districts.
