Decatur-based brewery Three Taverns is preparing to open its second location soon on Memorial Drive in Reynoldstown. Dubbed Three Taverns Imaginarium, the two-story brewery and tasting room at Atlanta Dairies features an experimental brewing lab, patio seating, and a takeout window just off the property’s half-acre greenspace call the Yard.
Three Taverns owner Brian Purcell says he specifically chose the site along a rapidly transforming stretch of Memorial Drive due to its proximity to the Beltline trail three blocks away, its historical significance, and to take advantage of the open-container policy at Atlanta Dairies.
“The earliest craft beer pioneers were left to construct their own brewing systems from used dairy equipment, which are still in use in some breweries today,” Purcell says in a press release. “Even earlier during the dark years of prohibition, some of the few breweries that survived turned to the dairy industry and used their skills in keeping things cold to make dairy products.”
Designed by Square Feet Studio, the Imaginarium features reclaimed, hand-painted wood floors, dark plaster walls, custom-designed wallpaper, and a custom mural along the back wall inspired by the science of beer-making. Downstairs includes a bar with high-top and rail seating with views of the brewery’s production facility and a mezzanine level offers plush, conversation-style seating and a small bar overlooking the brewing tanks below.

To limit capacity inside, people will be assigned to tables. No one will be allowed to stand around or linger in the taproom. Outdoor seating is available on the patio at the Imaginarium and in the Yard, complete with fire pits, rail seating, and other seating areas throughout the communal space. Masks are required when not seated at a table.
The takeout window has become a fortuitous pre-pandemic design choice, which Purcell now calls “key” to operating safely during the pandemic. People can purchase both pre-packaged and draft beers from the Imaginarium’s to-go window.
Along with six to eight of the brewery’s core beers on tap, the 10BBL pilot brewing system allows Three Taverns to create between 16 to 18 experimental beers at the Imaginarium, including milk stouts, fruit and cream sours, and milkshake IPAs.
The Imaginarium also plans to offer a limited food menu from a third party vendor, and host a rotating array of pop-ups each month.

Three Taverns Imaginarium joins Wonderkid and Cold Brew Bar now open at Atlanta Dairies. A concert hall with a rooftop bar from the owners of Variety Playhouse and a yet-named barbecue restaurant still plan to open next year.
The brewery first opened at East Decatur Station in 2013 and is known for its Belgian-style beers, sours, IPAs, and stouts.
Open Monday - Thursday, 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Sunday, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Masks required when not seated at a table. Takeout window available.
