Ruby Chow’s, the “Asian fusion” restaurant from chef Guy Wong (Ton Ton ramen, Miso Ko sushi bar), opens tonight for dinner on the corner of Glen Iris and North Avenue in the Old Fourth Ward. For Wong, Ruby Chow’s marks his return to the kitchen and the neighborhood that helped launch the chef onto the Atlanta dining scene more than a decade ago.

Located across from Ponce City Market, the restaurant is named for the late Chinese-American restaurateur and Seattle activist and politician, Ruby Chow. The menu is a mixed bag of small plates, like Wong’s take on Cantonese-style char siu ribs, sizzling yi mein, lemongrass snails, and a vegetarian General Tso’s “chicken”, and larger entrees, including a Cantonese-style whole lobster and bo ne (Vietnamese steak dish).

Wong also revives some of the most popular dishes found at his past restaurants on the menu at Ruby Chow’s. This includes the shoyu tamago egg over crispy rice and Peking duck bun from Wong’s pioneering Old Fourth Ward restaurant Miso Izakaya, and banh mi found at Westside Vietnamese restaurant Le Fat. Wong closed the former in 2018 and sold his ownership stake in the latter in December to focus on Ruby Chow’s.

Wong says he plans to eventually serve a Miso Izakaya-inspired late night menu at Ruby Chow’s later this spring when the patio opens. Once again, T. Fable Jeon (Himitsu) returns as cocktail and beverage director for Wong’s latest restaurant.

“I’m really excited to be cooking back in the Old Fourth Ward and seeing all the friends I’ve made from Miso Izakaya,” Wong tells Eater Atlanta of opening Ruby Chow’s.
