El Burro Pollo Burrito Stand Opens at the Collective Food Hall in Midtown

El Burro Pollo, the burrito stand and ceviche bar from El Super Pan chef Hector Santiago, opens today at the new Collective food hall at Coda in Midtown on Spring Street. The stall serves a selection of burritos, like beef barbacoa, loaded nachos, and dishes such as Acapulco shrimp ceviche and aguachile.

The grand opening of the 25,000-square-foot “chef-driven” food hall takes place on Thursday, March 19. Poke Burri sushi and poke stall opened last week at the Collective. Other stalls slated to open this month at the food hall include a second location of chef Kameel Srouji’s downtown Atlanta Mediterranean kiosk Aviva by Kameel and Wildleaf salad.

Burger and sandwich shop SmoQue Burger, a second location of Buford Highway Malaysian restaurant Mamak, and By Weight and Measure, a bar owned by Johnny Martinez and Brandon Ley (Joytstick Gamebar, Georgia Beer Garden) and Ian Carlson, open this fall.

As for El Burro Pollo, the stand finally sees Santiago’s popular “Juarez-style” burrito and “West Coast-style” ceviche pop-up become permanent. The menu includes the stall’s namesake burrito, the El Burro Pollo, made with chile-marinated chicken, a beef barbacoa option, as well as vegetarian burritos like a smoked tofu with slaw and fried pumpkin seeds. All of the burritos on menu can be made into pozole. The soup is then topped with radishes, avocado, and cilantro.

Other dishes featured at the stall are a Mexican tuna escabeche salad, a queso fresco and chihuahua cheese quesadilla stuffed with zucchini and squash blossoms, and cueritos (pork rinds). Draft and canned beers, margaritas, and cocktails such as a paloma and rum horchata are listed on the drinks menu.

Santiago’s counter-serve Latin American sandwich shop, El Super Pan, is temporarily closed for renovations until early April at Ponce City Market. Renovations to the stall include “necessary” repairs to the floors and a “fresh new look.”

MARTA and parking information: The Collective food hall at Coda is located three blocks north of the North Avenue MARTA station and about six blocks south of the Midtown MARTA station on West Peachtree Street. In addition to paid street parking in the area, Coda also includes a five-story parking garage.
