Public School 404 appears to be permanently closed on Howell Mill Road, according to the restaurant’s website. A note on the site reads, “After serving the wonderful city of Atlanta, Public School 404 has permanently closed its doors. It has been a pleasure to be a part of this amazing community. Thank you!” Calls to the restaurant go unanswered.
It’s unclear if the closure is related to COVID-19 financial difficulties, but seems likely given other Public School locations in California, Texas, Colorado, and Las Vegas remain open and operating.
A Facebook post dated May 11 lists the gastropub reopened for dine-in service, along with two Dallas, Texas locations, while another post, dated Sunday, May 17, talks up drink specials for the Howell Mill restaurant. Public School 404 was previously open for takeout and delivery, after closing its dining room in late March.
Eater Atlanta reached out to Public School 404 for further details on the closure.

The restaurant is part of the California-based Public School On Tap chain, which opened the Atlanta outpost in 2017 at the Brady complex just west of Georgia Tech. The gastropub’s menu includes dishes like bacon-cheddar tater tots served with Sriracha ketchup, chicken and cornbread waffles, and a barbecue bison burger.
