After announcing the semifinalists in February, the final nominees for this year’s James Beard Foundation awards were just released, with the help of Atlanta chef and James Beard Foundation award committee chair Anne Quatrano.
The May 4 announcement comes on the day the awards ceremony — dubbed the “Oscars of the food world” — was to take place at the Lyric Opera theater in Chicago. The awards ceremony was delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The chef and restaurant awards will now take place in Chicago on Friday, September 25. Details on the ceremony will be released at a later date.
Out of a semifinalist list that included some of Atlanta’s best and brightest, like Lazy Betty for Best New Restaurant, 8ARM chef Maricela Vega for Rising Star Chef, and four chefs in the Best Chef Southeast category, two restaurants will represent the city at this year’s James Beard awards in Chicago.
Here are the Atlanta nominees.
Outstanding Bar Program
Kimball House — Decatur, GA
Outstanding Wine Program
Miller Union — west side Atlanta
The 2020 Media Awards will take place online on Wednesday, May 27, covering cookbooks, broadcast media, and journalism.
