An online wine shop dubbed “ESS Bottle Shop” is set to debut next Tuesday, August 4, at Empire State South, the midtown Atlanta restaurant owned by chef Hugh Acheson. The virtual market will be run by the restaurant’s longtime wine director and sommelier Steven Grubbs.
Each week Grubbs plans to offer 20 or more wines in the online shop, ranging from $16 bottles of crushable and food-pairing wines, to rare but “wallet friendly” selections. Wines are purchased online for pickup at Empire State South, Tuesday through Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. New wines will be added regularly to the shop, with Grubbs providing further guidance to those with specific requests.
In addition to the weekly bottle offerings, ESS Bottle Shop will also feature four “Six Pack Roulette” wine packages, starting at $150. Each six-pack wine package includes a quick tutorial from Grubbs.
Check out the details on each wine package below:
Theme of the week — $150
Dealer’s choice wines selected by Grubbs.
Freshen Up — $175
Six wines, including a sparkling wine, leaning into crisp, bright flavors and minerality.
Stay Classy — $250
Classic, old world wines with at least one “special” bottle in the mix.
Big Uns’ — $250
Mostly big, bold red wines.
ESS Bottle Shop and Empire State South offer both curbside service and contactless pick-up. Empire State South is also open for takeout and limited dine-in service on the patio, Tuesday through Saturday. To-go food and family meals can be preordered online.
