A third Atlanta location of margarita bar Guac y Margys opens early next year at the block-wide behemoth the Interlock on Howell Mill Road on Atlanta’s west side.

Residing in a standalone building with an outdoor patio along Highline Park at the complex, expect the focus here to be on the bar’s vast variety of margaritas, along with chips and queso, a selection of salsas, and guacamole. Unlike the original Eastside Beltline location and recently opened Amsterdam Walk bar in Midtown, the Interlock Guac y Margys won’t serve tacos.

“The core of what we are as a business is a beach bar,” co-owner David Barton says in a prepared statement. “Since Atlanta doesn’t have beaches, we’ve worked to create open air spaces that are engaging and relaxing in great areas that ultimately become the hangout spot for residents and visitors.”

The Interlock

Barton, along with partners Troy Meyers and Sebastian Romano, first opened Guac y Margys in 2018 at SPX Alley flanking the Eastside Beltline. Earlier this summer, the trio took over the former Amsterdam Cafe space at Amsterdam Walk in Midtown, opening a second, much larger Guac y Margys there. Amsterdam Cafe was known for its popular, and often packed covered patio, and for hosting drag shows and dance parties, political fundraisers, and LGBTQ sports league events.

“Two of our three co-owners are gay men and long-term residents of Atlanta. When the space became available, it felt like an opportunity we couldn’t pass up,” Barton told Eater at the time of the Midtown opening. “We look forward to opening another gay-owned bar and restaurant there.”

The partners regularly host themed trivia nights, fundraising brunches, and private parties at both Guac y Margys locations.

Eater reached out for more details on the upcoming Interlock margarita bar.

Located across from Westside Provisions District, the $450 million Interlock complex on the corner of Howell Mill and 14th Street includes apartments, boutique hotel the Bellyard, and incubator space from Georgia Technology Ventures as well as a location of co-working company WeWork.

Locations of Saint-Germain Bakery and Cafe, mini golf bar and restaurant Puttshack, Velvet Taco, outdoor coffee and cocktail bar Holiday Bar, and cocktail lounge Drawbar inside the Bellyard are now open at the development.

Wood-fired pizza restaurant Humble Pie, self-service beer bar Pour Taproom, Miami resort-style pool, bar, and restaurant venue Leave of Absence, and a second location of Cathy’s Gourmet Ice Cream Sandwiches are all expected to open at the Interlock over the next few months.
