South American coffee cafe and wine and tapas bar El Viñedo Local is now open on Peachtree Street in Midtown, one block north of the Fox Theatre in the Circa 730 building. While awaiting its liquor license, the restaurant plans to serve coffee and light breakfast fare in the mornings and small plates during lunch.
Owner Robert Kaster tapped Uruguayan native chef Bruno Vergara to create dishes and grab-and-go food for the menu at El Viñedo Local (the local vineyard). At breakfast, people can expect empanadas, eggs and beef, and arepas alongside teas from Atlanta-based Just Add Honey Tea Company and South American fair trade coffee. Lunch offerings are similar with a larger selection of empanadas and arepas as well as dishes like ceviche and tostones.
Dinner and wine and weekend brunch should kick off in April. Like the coffee, wines at El Viñedo Local lean into South American varietals from producers using sustainable and organic winemaking practices.
Kaster spent nearly two decades working in food and beverage management for Hilton Hotels. Over the last two years, he has worked in the wine industry and considers El Viñedo Local his “passion project.”
