Hibachi and sushi food truck Gekko and Creole-Mexican street taco food truck Pretty Little Taco join three previously announced stalls at Colony Square food hall Politan Row, opening this June in Midtown.
Chef Shaun Doty announced earlier this year plans to open Federal Burger at Politan Row. A second location of Sang Ho’s restaurant Bun Mi Vietnamese Grill and Rob Green’s smoothie and bowl spot YŌM also open this summer at the Colony Square food hall.
In addition to the 11 restaurant stalls, a central bar, likely called Bar Politan, and a “secret bar” planned for the 20,000-square-foot food hall, the Politan Group is placing greater emphasis on open-air spaces and outdoor seating. This includes installing a sliding glass wall opening to the outside, a patio with covered seating and shuffleboard games, the Grove with shade trees and more outdoor seating, a plaza with a stage, and an outdoor bar. Each stall at Politan Row should offer online ordering and contact-free pick-up options.
A grand opening for the food hall kicks off with a ticketed event on Thursday, June 24, and runs through the weekend.
The new stalls
Gekko,
Owned by Jack Bai, Gekko serves sushi and hibachi bowls, like spicy ponzu tuna or hibachi steak or shrimp, along with potstickers and spring rolls.
Pretty Little Taco
This Creole-Mexican street taco stall, founded by Michaela Merrick, first launched out of the Triton Yards food truck park in Capitol View last spring. Expect beef birria tacos, street tacos stuffed with oxtails, chicken, or shrimp, dessert tacos, and vegan options on the menu at the food stall.
“Opening a new business is risky, but opening a new business during a pandemic was unheard of,” Merrick says of expanding to a permanent location. “While it was challenging, I learned a lot about myself and my business and was blown away by the support received from the community. I’ve been looking to expand and Politan Row was the perfect opportunity.”
Set along 14th and Peachtree streets, the food hall was first announced in 2017 as part of a multi-million dollar overhaul of the 50-year-old office and retail complex. Formerly called Main and Main, the food hall was renamed Politan Row in 2020 and is now run by New Orleans-based food hall operator Politan Group in partnership with Atlanta developer North American Properties.
Politan Row joins several full-service restaurants now open or opening at Colony Square over the next several months. Establishment overlooks the Grove at the complex and will eventually offer access to the food hall. Chicago restaurateur Donna Lee opened her first Atlanta outpost of Brown Bag Seafood Company next to Sukoshi, a fast-casual sushi restaurant from Indigo Road Hospitality (O-Ku). Dine-in theater iPic opened in December. The relocated Holeman and Finch Public House and a third location of Persian restaurant Rumi’s Kitchen should open this summer. A new restaurant from the CEO of Cafe Intermezzo called Saints and Council also opens this summer at Colony Square, along with an outpost of King of Pops.
