Owned by Dogwood Restaurant Group founder Walter L. Jordan, Kenya Amos of BQE Restaurant and Lounge, and financier and Clark Atlanta University alumna Dishamica Smith, Slush serves a bevy of frozen drinks on its cocktail menu paired with tapas. Expect dishes like a fried green tomato BLT salad, a trio of deviled eggs, Moroccan-style mussels in a coconut-curry broth, and Cajun fried Cornish hens with homemade hot sauce on the menu. Desserts include a bananas foster cheesecake, apple and peach cobbler shooters, and a chocolate molten cake topped with Grand Marnier berries and mint.
According to the press release, the HVAC was upgraded with a new high-tech UV lighting and air-purifying filtration system which supposedly reduces indoor orders and kills volatile organic compounds and other biological contaminants such as mold, bacteria, and viruses (including the virus that causes COVID-19). Masks are required when not eating or drinking.
Popular underground music and dance venue the Music Room along with its hidden watering hole Edgewood Speakeasy and barbecue joint Bone Lick Southern Kitchen next door closed last September. The latter was run by chef Mike LaSage (P’cheen), who began popping up at the former Pizzeria Vesuvius (part of the Music Room complex) in 2015.
All three establishments remained closed throughout the pandemic, with LaSage running the restaurant as a takeout and delivery joint called SOS Pop-Up Kitchen and the Music Room streaming weekly live music and DJ sessions via Twitch. LaSage told Eater at the time of the closures he and his partners simply ran out of resources and funding to keep everything afloat.
