After opening earlier this year in Piedmont Heights, owner Carson Young closes his taco and cheese dip takeout restaurant the Queso Shop Wednesday, June 30. However, he plans to reopen it this fall next door to his latest Yumbii location at the Toco Hill Shopping Center.
According to an Instagram post, the building in which the Queso Shop currently resides has been sold, prompting the move to Toco Hills.
Like the Piedmont Heights location, the Toco Hills restaurant will feature a self-serve ordering kiosk and a walk-up window and offer online ordering and delivery. The menu will also remain the same as in Piedmont Heights, serving a variety of cheese dips as well as to-go margarita mixes, tacos, nachos, and quesadillas from sister restaurant Yumbii. A rotisserie chicken family meal is available daily after 4 p.m., served with flour tortillas, a choice of two sides, and queso, salsa, and chips.
Young first launched the Queso Shop as a food truck in Los Angeles five years ago, before moving the operation to Atlanta in 2019. He expanded the menu for the takeout restaurant to include family meals, margarita mixes, a surfer’s burrito, and loaded crispy tater tots.
Young founded his Korean taco and burrito restaurant Yumbii as a food truck over a decade ago, opening the first permanent location seven years later in Atlanta’s Brookwood Hills neighborhood. In 2020, he opened a second location in Toco Hills, taking over a former Radio Shack at the Toco Hill Shopping Center on North Druid Hills Road. The Toco Hills location includes a covered patio and an expanded food and drink menu.
The Queso Shop in Toco Hills will open daily, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
