UNDERWOOD HILLS: Vegan food stall Hippie Hibachi is now open at Chattahoochee Food Works, joining 11 other stalls now open and serving at the 31-stall food hall. Claiming to be the first all vegan hibachi spot in Atlanta, owner Joshua Brock serves hibachi-style dishes with a selection of vegan proteins, including teriyaki chicken and shrimp, tofu, Impossible Meat, and mushrooms, along with items like vegetable fried rice. The stall is currently open Sunday - Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Thursday - Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. [Official]
EAST ATLANTA VILLAGE: Restaurant and bar Argosy in the heart of EAV announced on Sunday, July 18, it was temporarily suspending dine-in service due to positive COVID-19 results among some staff members. Out of an abundance of caution, the restaurant plans to continue offering service on the patio, along with takeout and delivery, until enough employees are safely cleared to work. [IG]
CABBAGETOWN: Wylie Street bar 97 Estoria is reinstating its mask-wearing policy for staff members, all of whom are vaccinated, due to a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in Georgia caused by the highly transmissible Delta variant. The bar is asking patrons to follow the lead, suggesting people who are not seated or dining and drinking at 97 Estoria do the same out of an abundance of caution. [IG]
CANDLER PARK: Neighborhood restaurant Gato discontinued its popular weekend breakfast service indefinitely and will now only serve dinner. The move was prompted by staffing shortages taking place across the board at restaurants throughout the country right now. The restaurant reopened for dine-in service in late June, after spending the last year offering takeout, and then opening for sidewalk seating this spring.
Owner Nicolas Stinson hopes to amp up the pop-ups and chef collaborations for which Gato is known, starting with Italian restaurant pop-up Gigi’s. Beginning August 2, Gigi’s will be serving up “New York-style Italian food” for the next three months on Monday and Tuesday evenings from the kitchen at Gato. Stinson will continue serving his dinners from the restaurant, Wednesday through Sunday, focused on dishes from southern Mexico and the Yucatán. [IG]
HOWELL MILL ROAD/WESTSIDE: Dart bar and restaurant Flight Club, based in the UK, will open next year at the emerging Star Metals complex taking shape just beyond the Interlock, the Atlanta Business Chronicle reports. Specializing in a technologically driven take on the traditional game of darts with automated scoring and multi-player options, Flight Club will also offer a menu of pub grub paired with beer, cocktails, and wine. MARIETTA: McCray’s Tavern owner Scott McCray has purchased the former Bramble Bar and Kitchen space on Marietta Square, according to broker Steve Josovitz of the Shumacher Group. It’s unclear if this will become another location of McCray’s or an entirely new restaurant. [TSG]
PONCEY-HIGHLAND: An eighth Atlanta location of Jeni’s Ice Cream is now open in the former Queen of Cream space at the Plaza on Ponce near Southern Belle and the Majestic Diner. Unlike its other locations, the Plaza shop features a walk-up window for ordering. Delivery is also available within five miles of any Jeni’s location in Atlanta. [OFFICIAL]
