Indian restaurant Sankranti is now open for takeout and delivery at the State Farm building in Dunwoody, with dine-in service at the restaurant set to begin in the next few weeks. Owner Srinivasa Nimmagadda once described the restaurant as “the Indian version of Chipotle.”
Nimmagadda, who also owns a banquet hall and restaurant of the same name in Johns Creek, says he hopes Sankranti fills a “void of Indian food offerings” in the fast-casual restaurant market here, likening its menu and approach to service to chains like Chipotle.
The menu features dishes from the northern and southern regions of India assembled while ordering at the counter, including kathi rolls, pulao, samosas, and kabobs. Curry bowls at Sankranti come with a choice of protein, such as tikka chicken, malai chicken, lamb, and paneer tikka masala. The restaurant also offers a couple of dessert options on the menu, like gulab jamun and rasmalai.
With the goal to make Indian cuisine more “mainstream”, Nimmagadda plans to open multiple Atlanta locations over the next year and eventually franchise the restaurant in order for it to become a “household name” in America.
Sankranti is the latest restaurant to open in the redeveloping Perimeter Center area.
Last August, Tum Pok Pok owners Jakkrit Tuanphakdee and Adidsara Weerasin opened Thai-Chinese restaurant Yao on Perimeter Center Parkway. A second location of brewpub Iron Hill Brewery also opened last summer on Hammond Drive near Perimeter Mall.
Later this year, chef Pasquale “Pat” Pascarella (The White Bull) will open a second location of his Piedmont Heights Neapolitan pizzeria and Italian restaurant Grana next door to Taco Mac in Perimeter Center. A small food hall opens soon at the Ashford Lane development in Perimeter Center, along with locations of Sweetgreen, Brown Bag Seafood Company, and Superica some time this summer.
Then, in 2023, a second Atlanta location of indoor mini golf bar and restaurant Puttshack opens as part of the forthcoming High Street development at the intersection of Perimeter Center Parkway and Hammond Drive.
