This Sandy Springs Restaurant Brings Japanese-Peruvian Food to Metro Atlanta

Peruvian restaurant Pisco Latin Kitchen opened earlier this month on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs in the former Cafe Sunflower space, the AJC first reported.

Owned by Joseph Rosales (Mambo’s Cafe), Pisco Latin Kitchen serves Peruvian, Cuban, and Nikkei dishes on its menu, the latter blending Peruvian ingredients and dishes like ceviche with Japanese techniques. A second location opens later this year in Buford.

Expect a variety of ceviches and Japanese-Peruvian sushi rolls and sashimi on the menu, along with paella, Peruvian stir fries, and entrees of churrasco steak, jalea mixta (fried seafood), and lechon asado (Cuban roast pork marinated in mojo marinade).

The bar offers a selection of margaritas and mezcal cocktails as well as a Cosmopolitan mixed with tequila, orange liqueur, grapefruit juice, and a squeeze of lime.

Few, if any Peruvian restaurants around Atlanta serve true Nikkei-style dishes on the menu, possibly making Pisco Latin Kitchen a unique experience for many residents who may have first experienced such dishes at Peruvian restaurants in Miami, a city which includes a large Peruvian-American community.

“Nikkei” refers to the descendants of Japanese immigrants throughout the world, some of whom began arriving in Peru in the early part of the 20th century. Over generations, the two cultures merged their culinary heritages to form this distinct offshoot of Peruvian food. Today, Nikkei is now most associated with Japanese-Peruvian food.
