Celebrity chef Scott Conant is set to debut his swanky Italian steakhouse the Americano in Buckhead on Monday, May 23, at the InterContinental Hotel. The restaurant takes over the space once home to chef Art Smith’s Southern Art. Smith closed the restaurant and its adjacent cocktail lounge Bourbon Bar last year at the InterContinental.

With a design described as “sophisticated” with a “moody atmosphere” meant to complement the wealthy neighborhood and the equally pricey restaurants and shops there, the Americano features a mixture of table and booth seating with an island bar and lounge area.

Gone are the black and white titled floors and light gray walls with pops of red, green, and purple found at Southern Art, in favor of a mostly monochromatic, modern vibe of charcoal gray broken up by bulbous gold chandeliers and a custom white sculpture by Peter Deise. The restaurant and its morning cafe, which takes over the former Bourbon Bar space, both include patio seating overlooking Peachtree.

Like the location of the Americano in Scottsdale, Arizona, look for bone-in ribeye and New York strip steaks, a small selection of Conant’s famed pasta dishes, fries topped with creme fraiche and caviar, and even a three-tier seafood tower on the menu. Other entrees include a spiced duck breast served with charred baby kale and sunchoke puree and a roasted black cod with a Calabrian chile glaze.

The wine list at the Americano leans heavily toward producers from Italy and the U.S.

The Americano marks the Southern debut for the Chopped judge, best known for his former Italian restaurants Scarpetta, L’Impero, and Alto in New York, Las Vegas, and Beverly Hills. Conant currently owns Mora Italian in Phoenix, a location of the Americano in Scottsdale, and Cellaio Steak in the Catskills.
