Wildly popular Asheville chocolate shop French Broad Chocolate is headed to Atlanta this fall, when a new location opens in the central food hall at Ponce City Market.

Located on the first floor between LaRayia’s Bodega and Five Daughters Bakery, the shop takes over the former Batter Cookie Dough space and includes a retail section for purchasing chocolate gift sets and the company’s other chocolate sundries. The Ponce City Market location will also serve French Broad’s handcrafted chocolates and bonbons, baked goods, and sipping chocolate.

Owners Jael Skeffington and Dan Rattigan spent two years visiting cacao farms and learning about Theobroma cacao in Costa Rica before founding French Broad Chocolate in 2006.

After selling their chocolates at Asheville farmers markets, the pair opened their first shop in 2008, French Broad Chocolate Lounge, in downtown Asheville, followed by a chocolate factory in 2012. Skeffington and Rattigan expanded the operation into a new facility in 2018 along the French Broad River and began providing tours of their chocolate-making endeavors there.

French Broad Chocolate joins a number of new food and drinks stalls opening at Ponce City Market and in the expanded portion of the food hall this year.

Last month, Poke Burri co-founder Seven Chan opened Umbrella Bar in the newly expanded section, a food and drinks stall styled after the stalls found at Asian night markets serving Korean street snacks, beers, and soju slushies.

Vietnamese restaurant stall Vietvana and Nani’s Rotisserie Chicken, from Chai Pani and Botiwalla chef Meherwan Irani, opened earlier this spring, with Persian restaurant stall Bibi, from the owners of Inman Park Middle Eastern restaurant Delbar, opening soon in the former Marrakesh food stall.

Pizza Jeans relocates later this summer from the second floor to the first floor, taking over the former Farm to Ladle space at the central food hall.
