The aging W Hotel in Midtown is now the Starling, after a rebrand and renovation transformed the nearly 50-year-old building at the Colony Square complex into a Hilton property, becoming part of the brand’s boutique Curio Collection.
With the rebrand comes a new bar and lounge called Lantana, led by chef Cole Pate, formerly of Atlanta restaurants the Southern Gentleman and Gyspy Kitchen.
Named for the flower, which is reflected in the floral design and bold colors throughout the updated lobby bar, look for dishes at Lantana like Bang Island mussels, wings, and baby hassleback potatoes paired with martinis and a Mandarin ginger gin sour during dinner. Breakfast and late night drinks are also served here.
“Night Shade Bingo at Lantana”, hosted by Atlanta drag artist Taylor Alxndr, and weekly live music are expected to begin soon at the hotel bar and lounge. In addition to Lantana, the Starling is also offering day passes to the terrace-level pool at the hotel, which comes with food and beverage service and the option to rent private cabanas.

The rebrand of the former W Hotel into the Starling is part of an ongoing multi-million-dollar revamp of the Colony Square complex in Midtown, which now includes food hall Politan Row and its cocktail bar Jo Jo’s Beloved, a new dine-in movie theater, and restaurants Rumi’s Kitchen, Saints and Council, Brown Bag Seafood Company, Establishment, Sukoshi, and Sweetgreen.
An outpost of popsicle purveyor King of Pops and the relocated Holeman and Finch Public House should open later this year at the development.
