Souper Jenny just expanded its Decatur location, taking over the former Nuts and Berries health food store space at North Decatur Plaza. And this location will not only feature plenty of seating, but also host events, dinner pop-ups, and cooking classes by owner Jenny Levison and her team.

Levison returned to Decatur with Souper Jenny in 2020, after closing a popular location of her soup and sandwich restaurant a year earlier in the city’s downtown dining district due to rent hikes and continued parking issues. Souper Jenny began popping up inside Nuts and Berries on North Decatur Road two years ago, later opening a permanent location beside the store.

With the closure of Nuts and Berries this past November, Levison expanded Souper Jenny into the former health food market, which now includes much more seating for the restaurant with couches and tables and areas for community events and pop-up dinners.

A Lasagna night with board games takes place Friday, January 27, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the newly expanded Decatur location. For $20 per person, dinner comes with a choice of regular or vegetable lasagna accompanied by garlic bread and a Caesar or green salad with a chocolate chip cookie for dessert. Kids 12 years and under are $10 per person. People are asked to reserve a space for the pop-up dinner online.

To celebrate the expansion in Decatur, a grand reopening event is scheduled for Saturday, February 4, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with complimentary bites from baker Sarah Dodge and Colette Bread and the Cornbread Sisters. The latter sells its cornbread at various Souper Jenny locations throughout Atlanta and metro Atlanta. Evolve Botanica will also be selling Valentine-themed bath products and offering astrology and tarot readings that day.

Levison tells Eater she plans to host regular dinner pop-ups each month in Decatur, along with pop-ups from other Atlanta chefs. Look for knitting classes and a book club to launch in the future and Saturday story time for families of young children starting in March.

In addition to Decatur, Souper Jenny includes restaurants on Huff Road in Blandtown, at the Atlanta History Center in Buckhead, in Brookhaven, and in Roswell.

Open Monday - Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
