A new food hall is set to open in Norcross next year as part of the South End development currently under construction along South Peachtree Street, the Atlanta Business Chronicle first reported. The property was once home to a gas station, tile shop, and auto repair buildings, some dating back nearly a century.
Located in a former engine repair building beside the outdoor stage, the latest food hall headed to metro Atlanta will contain between three and four restaurant stalls anchored by a barbecue restaurant aptly named South End Smokehouse. Smoked brisket will apparently be the star attraction on the restaurant’s menu. No word yet on the future occupants of the food stalls.
In addition to the food hall and live music stage, South End Norcross will eventually include a central green space known as the Yard, an outdoor bar, Atlanta ice cream shop Butter and Cream, a location of Clarkston coffee shop Refuge Coffee Co., and burger joint B&W Burgers. Both Butter and Cream and B&W Burgers should open later this spring. Developers are also in talks to bring a brewery or distillery to the development.
Atlanta’s food hall boom began almost a decade ago with the openings of Krog Street Market and Ponce City Market. Over the next two years, nearly one dozen new food halls will open in Atlanta and its surrounding suburbs, including Switchman Hall in the city’s Peoplestown neighborhood, The Hall at Ashford Lane in Dunwoody, and Chamblee Tap and Market in historic downtown Chamblee.
Citizens Market food hall is opening April 27 at Phipps Plaza. The eight-stall food hall features restaurant stalls from renowned chefs like Dani Garcia, Masaharu Morimoto of Iron Chef fame, and Shimi Aaron and Italian chef and master butcher Dario Cecchini.
