Want those socks knocked off by blueberry and apple fritters studded with berries and apples? Head over to Dough in the Box in Austell. There’s also customizable, cream- and jelly-filled doughnuts and croissants, too. Locations open in South Fulton and Marietta.

Hidden in the basement of Canvas Cafe in Marietta, Doughnut Dollies is where Anna Gatti creates “chef-driven” doughnuts. The treats at this shop are beautifully adorned and come in creative flavors like Cereal Bowl, topped with cereal milk frosting or the Sweet Jane, a 24-hour brioche stuffed with vanilla pastry cream. There are locations on Howell Mill and in Virginia-Highland.

This Marietta shop must be good if the Dunkin’ directly next door went out of business. The cake and yeast doughnuts are straightforward and uncomplicated, with the sour cream old fashioned being the stand-out on the menu. Go early and the shop will throw in a few doughnut holes, too. 

Head out to East Cobb to this gas station-adjacent gem. It’s no frills here with just a couple of seats, but the doughnuts (both yeast and cake varieties) are freshly fried and wholly satisfying. There’s also sausage kolaches — think pigs in a fluffy blanket — a Texas roadside favorite. 

Located inside Strong Drink Vegan Juice Bar in West End, Vegan Dream Doughnuts offers gluten free confections that are made without dairy and unnecessary additives. Doughnuts are sweetened using coconut crystals and agave rather than sugar. Pop in to check out the doughnut flavors of the day or grab a cinnamon roll for the road.

This bakeshop is known for its Instagramable, gluten-free sweet treats, but there’s also a couple of savory options like biscuits and mini pies, depending on the daily menu. Find everything from scones to sweet hand pies in the pastry case. The bakery offers vegan options, too. Items rotate frequently, but some daily options to try include the cinnamon rolls, breakfast sandwiches, and, of course, doughnuts. Currently the shop is offering preordering of its pastries and baked goods, including a half-dozen mystery box of doughnuts.

The menu at Hero Doughnuts in Summerhill features over a dozen doughnut flavors, including a variety of cream-filled and cake doughnuts with toppings such as Fruity Pebbles or vanilla, chocolate, or pistachio glaze. Jam-filled doughnuts tend to change with the seasons. Hero also sells doughnut holes dipped in vanilla glaze, apple fritters, and cinnamon rolls. Most doughnuts are made using a brioche dough, which is also used to create the buns for Hero’s bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich, kolaches, hamburgers, fried bologna sandwich, and Buffalo chicken “super crunch” sandwich.

People flock to this North Carolina-born doughnut shop now in Buckhead, Toco Hills, Marietta, and Alpharetta for the seemingly endless flavor combinations. The vanilla cake doughnut is fried right in front of customers and then customized with as many toppings as desired. 

The first Atlanta outpost of this popular Nashville doughnut shop opened in Ponce City Market in 2018. The shop’s most famous treat is the 100-layer doughnut — a doughnut-croissant hybrid that takes nearly four days to create. These giant doughnuts, however, are crispy and light, coming in flavors like chocolate sea salt or vanilla cream. Five Daughters also offers paleo and yeast doughnuts as well as a buttery, crispy croissant pastry called “the Quinn.” Five Daughter’s includes a location in the breezeway at Westside Provisions District.

With multiple locations throughout Buckhead and northern metro Atlanta, Da Vinci’s includes a variety of decadent doughnuts, like those topped with Oreos or dulce de leche, to simple powdered sugar and cinnamon-coated confections. There’s even the option to DIY that doughnut with a choice of icing or drizzle and toppings such as Fruity Pebbles, M&Ms, and mini marshmallows.

Revolution Doughnuts now has two locations: the original in Decatur and a second shop in Inman park. Revolution offers a wide range of doughnuts, including around 15 vegan options. Try the light and airy raspberry sprinkle yeast doughnut or the triple chocolate cake doughnut. Revolution also carries gluten free doughnuts. Please note, the doughnuts are made in a shared facility. 

Sarah Donuts is a locally-owned doughnut chain with locations scattered throughout the northern suburbs and a shop in Decatur. Sarah draws in doughnut lovers for their simple approach to the classics. While the cake and yeast doughnuts might not be as beautifully presented as other shops, it’s all about the taste and playful shapes, such as a 3-D flower and a star. 

This roadside cafe and local goods and coffee shop located inside a former general store serves a tight selection of traditional and creative doughnut flavors on the menu, including coffee bacon, lemon yuzu, plain cake doughnuts, and Boston cream on the weekends. Expect seasonal doughnut flavors, too, like peaches and cream and apples and cinnamon.

Grab everything from classic cake doughnuts and jelly or creamed-filled doughnuts, to crullers and apple fritters at this Ray’s location on Candler Road. Order a box of dozen doughnuts to-go, along with hot coffee, cold brew, or Thai iced tea. Ray’s also serves croissant breakfast and bagel sandwiches, too. Locations also open in Lawrenceville, Jonesboro, and Marietta.

Donut City in Tucker doesn’t get fancy with the doughnut selection, opting to keep it classic with cake, glazed, and old fashioned varieties by the half and whole dozen. There’s also bear claws for dunking in a hot cup of coffee, doughnut holes, and hot breakfast croissant sandwiches and burritos, too.

Dutch Monkey is worth the trek north to Cumming for doughnuts. These perfectly fried doughnuts come in playful flavors like Not Samoa, a take on the Girl Scout cookie with chocolate, caramel, and coconut. The eponymous Dutch Monkey is filled with dulce de leche custard and topped with bananas and chocolate. The shop also has a serious coffee program serving Counter Culture Coffee to pair with their doughnuts, and free Wi-Fi. 

This mochi doughnut chain first opened in Duluth and Doraville in 2021. A location is also headed to Alpharetta soon. Look for flavors here like matcha Oreo topped with Oreo cookie crumbles, peanut butter and jelly, churro Nutella, and an ode to the Biscoff cookie with a caramel glaze and topped with a whole cookie.
