Patios across the metro area have shut down for the winter. But, Atlanta’s bars and restaurants are shifting gears as diners seek warmth indoors in the form of a hot drink. Whether that’s a hot toddy, an Irish coffee, or something non-alcoholic like a rich and creamy hot chocolate, here’s a list of where to get some of Atlanta’s best hot drinks of the season.

The Howell Mill Road tasting room has a creative take on the classic buttered rum this winter season. The Hot Buttered R&B is a rich blend of butter batter, hot apple cider, rum, ASW distillery’s apple brandy, and UrbanTree’s Classic Cider. It’s topped with whipped cream for an extra sweet kick.

After dining on some tapas at this polished Westside restaurant, order a hot buttered cider. The nonalcoholic drink incorporates brown butter syrup and shaved nutmeg into house-made apple cider. There’s also the option to add buttered rum.

Loews Atlanta Hotel

Head to Saltwood inside this swanky Midtown hotel for a spiked hot chocolate. The Ponce de Noel is made with hot chocolate, tequila, mezcal, Oaxacan chocolate from Xocolatl, and is topped with a whipped cream-cardamom foam. There’s also a non-alcoholic version, too.

The cozy Virginia-Highland restaurant has three hot beverages this season. The standout is the champurrado, made with dark chocolate, masa harina, pecans, milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, orange peel, and a spike of tequila. Also available are a hot buttered rum (made with a numbing five spice mix and black tea) and glogg, a Scandinavian drink featuring mulled red wine and port.

Sip on the Cozy Blanket at chef Joey Ward’s recently opened cocktail lounge. Warm buttered rum, pineapple, sage, and brown butter come together for an easy to drink winter beverage. Note: this drink hits the menu the week of December 16.

9 Mile Station

Grab a seat by one of 9 Mile’s fire pits and take in the skyline views while sipping a Waterloo Toddy. It’s a concoction made with barrel aged gin, lemon, sugar, and allspice.

What could be better than eating one of Xocolatl’s chocolate bars? Drinking it. Purchase either a four and eight-ounce serving of Nicaraguan, single origin drinking chocolate at Xocolatl’s Krog Street Market stall next door to Varuni Napoli. This is a great non-alcoholic drink for those who prefer a less sweet version of hot chocolate made with cacao, organic cane sugar, and coconut milk.
