Several establishments have now opted to make that takeout window a permanent part of the business. Brick Store Pub has been a downtown Decatur staple for over two decades now, and offers a lengthy, rotating list of local, Belgian, and hard-to-find beers, which are also available from a walk-up window on the side of the building. This walk-up barbecue joint across from Kimball House in Decatur serves traditional, slow-smoked barbecue rooted in family recipes from Mississippi. Hit the takeout window at Java Saga for a sizable Taiwanese-style hot chicken sandwich that comes in four levels of heat: lifeline (mild), crypto (hot and numbing), octane (very hot), and predator. Each sandwich is topped with Java Lava Saga sauce and sweet pickles served on brown sugar milk toast. Order coffee or tea drinks or a mango smoothie to curb the heat.
