When you ask people about the foods they most associate with Atlanta (or the South), answers will likely include fried chicken, collard greens, biscuits, and barbecue. But what people probably don’t know about Atlanta is it also includes a robust vegan food and restaurant scene — and has so for decades — thanks to the Black communities and religious institutions rooted in the city’s historic neighborhoods of Westview and the West End. But a recent wave of new restaurants is helping bring vegan food to even more neighborhoods around the city, making Atlanta the capital of veganism in the South.
