It's January, the month of new goals, new resolutions, and, of course, new burgers, so here are nine local spots that opened or changed up their patty-and-bun offerings pretty recently. On the map are brunch burgers, sliders, and lamb, beef, black-eyed pea versions. Do head below to check 'em out, and feel free to leave others in the comments.

Sun in My Belly

There are two new burgers on the dinner menu at Sun in My Belly. Catch the half-pound Zia, with Hatch green chile, sharp cheddar, and roasted garlic aioli or a lamb burger called the Fez and served with feta, olive tapenade, black pepper, and mint aioli.

Oh yes there is a pickleback burger on the menu at Cypress Street. It's on the menu through February and will become an off-menu special after that. Look for a half-pound patty with a Jameson glaze, dried dill pickles, pepper jack cheese, and bacon on onion brioche.

Cakes & Ale Restaurant

Cakes & Ale just launched brunch, and with that comes a brand new burger: rib-eye patty, red onion, Swiss cheese, and Dijon mustard on a housemade English muffin. Get it from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays.

West Egg Cafe

Get West Egg's Fresh Start burger and a beer for $12 on Wednesday and Thursday after 5 p.m. this week in celebration of the new year and the West Midtown restaurant's recent reopening. The vegetarian burger has a black-eyed pea patty, avocado, and roasted tomato aioli on an H&F bun.

This newest Flip Burger location opened in place of Richard Blais's "haute dog" concept HD1 late last year. The chorizo burger, a Flip mainstay, is the perfect novelty brunch item with its chorizo patty, eggs, hashbrowns, shaved manchego cheese, and smoked paprika, all on a bun.

Okay, maybe a sloppy joe isn't really a burger, but the spicy "manwhich" at Heirloom Market BBQ, an homage to the sandwich at the recently shuttered Ben's Brown Bag, comes pretty close. It's topped with an onion ring and kimchi slaw and looks like this. [Photo]
