This Is Where Alton Brown Likes to Eat in Atlanta

View as Map

Marietta resident, bow tie designer, and Iron Chef host Alton Brown knows the Atlanta area pretty well. He's lived here for quite some time, went to school down 316 in good ol' Athens, GA, and even showed Anthony Bourdain around the city. Below, Brown shares some of his favorite spots in town and outside the perimeter— the chef says that he tends to favor restaurants where, if he has a favorite dish, he never has to worry about not being able to order it. "They'll never take it off the menu, and I like that."

Next Friday night, he'll be at the Fox Theatre, playing a show as part of Alton Brown Live! The Edible Inevitable Tour, about which he claims, "If you have any interest in food whatsoever, there's something for you." That show contains music, puppets, food demonstrations, and poncho zones. Head here to learn more, and keep reading for Brown's restaurant recommendations.

The Butcher The Baker

I like to walk to The Butcher The Baker. The charcuterie is fantastic, and the baking is amazing. The rolls are so succulent. It reminds me of the Left Bank in Paris as far as quality. It's the best thing to happen to Marietta Square— there are some restaurants that should not still be open on the Square, but that one is world class.

I love Red Eyed Mule. It's my favorite burger joint. [Photo]

The Manna House

Manna is a super funky soul food shop. I love soul food— I'm a sucker for collard greens and cornbread. [Photo]

Seed Kitchen & Bar

I'm a big fan of Seed in Marietta. I eat there at least once a week. And they've done really well with the new wine bar, Stem.

Blue Ridge Grill

In Atlanta, I like Blue Ridge Grill. They make a mean martini and can cook a steak.

My wife and I, our favorite nice night out is at Canoe.

Miller Union

Miller Union has a fantastic cocktail program. They are so good with their drinks. And they always use seasonal ingredients, but whatever you have, they always make things taste like them.

Fox Bros Bar-B-Q

It's not so much the barbecue at Fox Bros.— which is solid— as it is the sides. I really like the slaw, the slaw is great.

Sublime Doughnuts

I love Sublime Doughnuts. They're pretty freaking terrific. I order the peanut butter jelly and the strawberry cream-filled.

Bone Garden Cantina

Bone Garden is my favorite place for tequila shots and tacos. The tamarind margarita is dangerous. [Photo]

Five & Ten

I went to UGA, and I like Athens. I'm into Five & Ten because I'm a big Hugh Acheson fan. I've got my own plane so I'll fly out to Athens, get a car, and head over.
