Updating the Eater Heatmap: Where to Eat Right Now

View as Map

More often than not, tipsters, readers, friends and family of Eater have one question: Where should I eat right now? What are the new restaurants? What haven't I heard of? What's everyone talking about? While the Eater 38 is a crucial resource covering old standbys and neighborhood essentials across the city, it is not a chronicle of the 'it' places of the moment. Thus, we offer the Eater Heatmap, which will change periodically to highlight where the food-crazed crowds are flocking. Since this is a spotlight on what's happening right now, we must bid adieu to places no longer qualify as hot. Therefore, in this edition, we are saying goodbye to the Bone Lick BBQ and adding the Atlantic Station pop-up, Hudson North. Do note that the mapped restaurants are in alphabetical order.

Have any suggestions? Any vital omissions? Leave 'em in the comments or email us on the tipline.

Ammazza

The newest addition to the pie scene is Ammazza, a Neapolitan-esque pizzeria that sources some ingredients locally instead of importing everything from Italy. Also: they have glitter pizza.

Bantam & Biddy

Shaun Doty and Lance Gummere's new rotisserie chicken joint, Bantam & Biddy opened recently in Ansley Mall and just started serving breakfast this week. Go for duck fat fries, chopped liver, pork schnitzel, seasonal pies, or bloody Marys if you're not in the mood for the bird.

Dancing Goats Coffee Bar

The new Dancing Goats Coffee Bar at Ponce City Market has a small indoor bar, an outdoor patio with hanging sofa beds, Batdorf & Bronson coffee, sandwiches made by Jay Swift of 4th & Swift, and sugar doughnuts from Duck's Cosmic Kitchen. The porch will be screened in soon, and a larger location in PCM will open in 2014.

Holeman & Finch Public House

Holeman & Finch opened in 2008, but it deserves a spot on the Heatmap because of its high quality consistency and intense popularity. Need a place to go for drinks? Want to wow out of town guests with 10 p.m. burger theatre? This is your spot.

Hudson North

Hudson North is the Atlantic Station pop-up brainchild of the husband-wife team behind Cypress Street Pint & Plate. The gastropub is only around until the end of the year, so be sure to stop in while you still can.

Miso Izakaya

Miso Izakaya has been around for a while, but the Japanese restaurant's ramen lunch service— a collaboration between Mihoko Obunai and Guy Wong— is new, constantly evolving, and sells out quickly. Get it starting at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday.

Octopus Bar

This late-night industry hangout tacked on to Vietnamese pho house So Ba has quickly become known for its menu geared toward what chefs want, its curated cocktail list, and, as former CL editor Besha Rodell puts it, its "low-key revelry."

The Optimist

Ford Fry's new restaurant brings a little bit of the ocean to landlocked West Midtown. Early reviews of the "fish camp and oyster bar," which was named Esquire's Best New Restaurant of 2012 and got the So Hot Right Now Eater Award, have been stellar, and the space is just as pretty as the food.

Proof and Provision

Proof & Provision made the Eater National Cocktail Heatmap last week, and for good reason. The beverage program is great and Zeb Stevenson's comfort food-esque menu pairs perfectly with it.

Salt Factory

Salt Factory Pub just announced that it's opening a location in Alpharetta, so now is the time to venture into downtown Roswell and try the original, which happens to be one of the best restaurants outside of the perimeter.

The Spence

Probably the most highly anticipated opening of the year, Richard Blais's The Spence started serving dinner at the end of May. This fall, its opening process was captured on Bravo's Life After Top Chef, and fans of the celeb cheftestapant keep flooding to the restaurant in droves. The menu is upscale "casual American"; don't miss the innovative desserts and cocktails or the clever wine list.
